Autoresponders are time savers. Let me elaborate more properly.

Autoresponder is a tool that does a lot of work for us which if we do manually would take a lot of time. In terms of email marketing, Autoresponders sends an email to our contacts on behalf of us when a condition is triggered.

Let us understand it more clearly. Suppose you are launching an ebook and you want that whenever someone signs up for your ebook, they should get the ebook along with necessary details into their email.

Now, it is nearly impossible to send an email to each one manually because you never know when a person is going to sign up. In this case, an Autoresponder comes really useful.

Let us take another example, you are creating a course for 7 days where the people who sign up will get an email every day for the next 7 days. Here you can create an autoresponder and then create 7 emails and then set it for each day. So whenever a person signs up for the course, they are going to get 7 emails in the next 7 days.

Creating an autoresponder

Open your Getresponse dashboard and then on the left side click on Create Autoresponder.

Now, the page will open where we have to make the necessary changes and set up our autoresponder.

1. Give a name

Give your autoresponder a name. It could be anything related to your product. It is only visible by you and nobody else.

2. Autoresponder Setting

This is the most important setting of the autoresponder. Here you need to select when do you want the message to be sent.

Suppose I want to send the message at the very next moment when the user signs up. So, you need to select the same setting as shown in the picture.

On the bottom, you will have the option to select that which day you want to send the message. Now if you want to send the message the very next moment someone signs up then, you need to keep it checked for all days.

Now if you want to send 7 different emails for the next 7 days or more if you want then you need to create that many autoresponders. If you want to send 7 emails then you need to create 7 autoresponders for each day. It is as simple as that.

3. Choose email address

4. Add subject line

Add a subject line of the email that your autoresponder is going to send. Try to make the subject line catchy which grabs attention. Suppose I am selling an ebook and when someone sign’s up and buys my book, they will receive a mail containing the book with this subject line.

Try to keep the subject line under 60 characters so that it is fully visible in your email dashboard for mobile and 120 characters for desktop as mentioned in the image.

5. Design your email

Here click on Design content. Now we will design the email template.

There are a lot of pre-designed templates available here. But we need to make it simple and classic. If you want to use a pre-designed template then you can do that.

Select Blank templates and then select the blank template. Now, here the dashboard will open where we will write our email and make the necessary changes.

Here we will write our email content. As I am taking the example of an ebook, you can write your email according to your own product.

Now there is another interesting feature that almost all email marketing tools offer. If you want that when a mail is sent to someone, it should contain their name in the first line, for e.g. “hey aniket”.

But since, it is not possible to do it manually. So you need to use the dynamic field. Dynamic fields help you to add dynamic content to your email. Let us understand this.

You need to click on the icon as mentioned in the image, then this box will open where you will have all the different fields. Now, let’s suppose you want to add the contacts name in the email, so you need to search for name and choose name from the list.

One thing to remember here is that you need to choose your field according to your form. If your form doesn’t have the same field then this won’t work. So choose carefully.

So this is my final email.

6. Publish the autoresponder

Now, after completing everything, click on Save and Publish and your autoresponder will be live.
